Egg Nog Sugar Cookies

This is a traditional cookie that our child loved this past year. Combining a rich creamy egg nog infusion into the traditional sugar cookie base is a true delight.

Mix up some egg nog glaze and you have a match made in holiday heaven.

Pour a tall glass of egg nog and enjoy this simple and delicious cookie.

Bring some to your next holiday gathering.

Dry Ingredients before Wet

Combining all the dry ingredients is the first step.  Mixing all the dry ingredients in a separate bowl before adding wet ingredients will help to more evenly distribute and combine all ingredients. This prevents unwanted lumps of flour or baking soda from ruining the texture of your final bake.

Mixing all dry ingredients in a separate bowl before adding the wet ingredients will help to more evenly distribute and combine all ingredients and prevent lumps of flour or baking soda to accumulate.

Egg Nog Frosting Will Elevate This To New Heights

The frosting for this cookie is super quick and easy, and really is a powerful force as far as carrying the sweetness factor.

Combining the confectioners sugar, nutmeg, eggnog and whatever color food coloring is all it takes.

Mix the frosting first and separate into small batches if you want to present multiple color options to  your guests.  We stick with the traditional red and green for this batch, but the sky is the limit!

Separate your glaze into separate bowls for each color. We stay with classic red and green for this batch. The glaze will really elevate that egg nog flavor profile.

It is tempting to start eating these while they cool, but try to be patient. The frosting is going to be so good. Worth. The. Wait!

What About All These Bubbles...

You may come to notice a bunch of tiny bubbles all over your freshly dipped cookies. If they dont bother you you may leave them alone. No harm done. However if you want to get the smoothest frosting finish possible, we found that using a tooth pick to pop them works really well.

Pop the air bubbles in your freshly dipped glaze with a toothpick if you want a more smooth finish when they dry.

Farm Fresh Apple Crisp

Our recent family outing was to a local apple farm. The Honeycrisp, Gala, Blonde and Jonagold apples were ready for pickin’, and we brought home several bags for eating and baking.

Three (monsterously large) honeycrisp apples were cored and chopped to make this insanely amazing farm fresh apple crisp.

We again opted to use gluten free and dairy free ingredients so our child could partake. This can be made with or without the substitutions and the results will be equally incredible.
