Their vibrant red color also adds a festive touch to the table.

Cranberries are a staple ingredient in many traditional holiday recipes, but they can shine on there own in their natural state with just a little help from confectioners sugar. This simply sweet addition is essential to counter out the cranberries’ natural tartness.

Refreshing Holiday Staple

The holidays in our house are always filled with the cookies, candies and charcuterie board of fresh deli meats and cheeses.  Recently we added this cranberry dish into the pool of options. It has been a literal refreshing addition to that gets attention from our friends and families.

A fresh cranberry offers a firm juicy crunch that is filled with a refreshing burst of sweet and sour. A coating of powdered sugar not only enhances the sweet side of the cranberry but elevates it aesthetically to that of a freshly fallen snow.

Cranberries offer several health benefits that can’t be overlooked. They are full of antioxidants and have been commonly known to be the go do for staving off UTI’s. They can act as a source for anti-inflammatory as well.  A real powerhouse of a fruit.

Many holiday dishes require a lot of prep and planning. This recipe wait until last minute as it is a simply 1-2-3.  Wash/rinse, sprinkle and serve!

Sugar of choice

While we opted to use confectioners sugar for our holiday gathering, we have also made these with granulated sugar. The texture with granualated sugar gives a candy-like mouthfeel. The crystals of sugar mimic that of may sweet and sour candies, but with an added refreshment you can only obtain with freshly picked fruit.

Farm Fresh Apple Crisp

Our recent family outing was to a local apple farm. The Honeycrisp, Gala, Blonde and Jonagold apples were ready for pickin’, and we brought home several bags for eating and baking.

Three (monsterously large) honeycrisp apples were cored and chopped to make this insanely amazing farm fresh apple crisp.

We again opted to use gluten free and dairy free ingredients so our child could partake. This can be made with or without the substitutions and the results will be equally incredible.
